Dr Phil Boyle’s article on his experience of using NAPRO Technology in treating Infertility, ‘Outcomes from treatment of Infertility with Natural Procreative Technology in an Irish General Practice’ by Stanford, Parnell and Boyle, published in J Am Board Fam Med; 2008; vol 21 (5) 375-384 may be found at www.medscape.com. The study indicates that NAPRO has similar effectiveness in assisting couples to conceive as ART (assisted reproductive technologies), but is less invasive and has fewer side effects and complications. More research is needed to establish just how competitive NAPRO could be with ART if the cohort of patients were equal; Boyle’s patients tended to be older and to have been trying to conceive for longer than the average patient presenting for ART.
The next Teacher’s Training Course will be held in September 2010, probably in Sligo. The outline of the Course is on the website. (See links to your left, click Teachers Training Course.) The Course as outlined is held on both a Saturday and Sunday but this schedule may be altered for the next Course, for instance being held on Saturdays only, if this would accommodate more prospective students.
We are sorry to note the death of Wyn Worthington on 10 February 2009, which occurred after a short illness at her son’s home in Whitley Bay, Tyne & Weir, England. Wyn was a pioneer in Natural Family Planning and in partnership with Dr Anna Flynn ran the first Teacher’s Training Course in Ireland in Galway in 1987, after which the NFPTAI was formed. She and Anna gave generously of their time and expertise to running NFP Courses in Ireland. Anna Flynn predeceased Wyn in 1997, but Wyn continued to teach here in Ireland for several more years. We owe them both a great debt. We would like to convey our condolences to Wyn’s son, Bill, and his family on their great loss. May she rest in peace.
